Attention all you anglers out there! Sega Marine Fishing’s online functionality has now been restored thanks to Xiden with help from coolclearcyberneticeyes and Shuouma! I gotta say this game has some really cool online features! The most unique of which being the “Fish Mail” feature which allows you to send messages to friends and strangers via fish. I know, it sounds weird but clearly this is the future of online communication! How it works is quite simple, you submit a message on the website via the Fish Mail section of the website which can then be downloaded by anyone. To download a message, you simply select up to five of them to download to your VMU, select the Fish Mail option from the Network mode of the game, and then load the file. It will immediately throw you right into the game where you can try and catch the appropriate species of fish to see the message(s).
Then of course you have the competitions which are pretty straightforward. Just visit the website, download the latest competition, and then select it from the Network mode. Just like with Fish Mail, as soon as you load the file from the VMU, you will be thrown directly into the correct area where you can start fishing. Each tournament will challenge you to catch the largest type of a specific fish. There’s no time limit so you can fish for as long as you like. When you catch a record-breaking fish, you can exit the game and save the competition results to your VMU, which can then be submitted on the website.
If you’d like to try these features out for yourself, simply head to the Network in the game. DreamPi users will automatically be redirected to the new website but if you’re using another connection method, you’ll need to make sure your DNS is set to 46.101.91.123. To participate in the tournaments or send Fish Mail, you’ll need to log in using a SegaNet account. If you don’t have one already, you can sign up here.
