Did you think we were just going to end the New Years celebration with only one new game? Keep thinking because Power Smash Tennis is now back online thanks to the great server-restorer Shuouma! That’s right, we finally have another sport to add to the online roster! I’m sure this is one a lot of you have been eagerly anticipating. For those of you not in the know, Power Smash is Japan’s version of Virtua Tennis, which was released 4 months after the US iteration. It’s a bit unusual for Japan to get a game later than the rest of the world but there’s a good chance this was because of the implementation of online play in Power Smash. Powered by the same IWANGO system as many other Japanese titles, the game supports 2 players online (or 4 with 2 players per console), and let me tell you, it’s an absolute treat! The online gameplay is very smooth and is sure to satisfy tennis game enthusiasts. Personally, I think I’ll be putting a lot of time into this one!
Going online with Power Smash is a bit simpler than the other IWANGO games as this one doesn’t require a patched image. That’s right, you can play online with your original disc! Aside from that point though, the process is the same as the other IWANGO games. You’ll need to be running DreamPi 2.0 and you’ll need a unique “Login ID” in your web browser settings as this will be used as your account name when playing online. If you still have your ID set to “dream”, you won’t be able to connect to the server.
As always, be sure to check the Connection Guide for all the info you need on how to connect.
If you have any issues with the server, feel free to report them in the comments below. Big props as always to Shuouma for all his hard work! See you all online soon!

Just purchased a copy from eBay. Let’s go!
What?! Really?! I’m so happy that the Dreamcast community is producing so much news and work like this. Long live the Dreamcast!
