It’s happening again! We’re getting another Dreamcast game back online thanks to the great Shuouma! Today happy to reveal that Golf Shiyouyo 2 has been brought back online! Those of you who are fans of golf games will love this new addition to the online library. It’s a solid golf game with a good variety of courses, game modes, plenty of customization, and supports up to 4 players online. Some of the game modes include the usual like stroke and match play but there’s also a really cool mode called “Club Seal” that has you stealing clubs from the other players in order to make their round a bit more difficult. The game runs awesome online from what we’ve played so far. And no, before anyone asks, it doesn’t support the broadband adapter. However, as you might expect from a turn-based game, it runs flawlessly over a dial-up connection.
As with the previous game that Shu revived, Sega Tetris, I’ve done my part of translating most of the online menus and messages in this game into English to make it much more accessible for non-Japanese speakers. You may still run into the occasional bit of Japanese text here and there when playing online but most of the important parts are translated so you should have no problem navigating around and starting a match.
The game is pretty much identical to Sega Tetris as far as connecting to the private server goes. You’ll be needing a patched version of the game to play online (available from the Downloads page) and if you haven’t done so already, you’ll also want to change your “Login ID” in your web browser settings to something unique as this will be used as your account name when playing online. If you still have your ID set to “dream”, you won’t be able to connect to the server.
As always, be sure to check the Connection Guide for all the info you need on how to connect.
The server is very stable from our testing but as this is a new server launch, there’s always the possibility of encountering issues and there are still some missing features (e.g. password-protected games are not possible as of right now). If you have any issues with the server, be sure to report them in the Dreamcast-Talk post here. Huge kudos and thanks to Shuouma for yet another Dreamcast game brought back online! This one is a real treat for me personally and I expect to be spending a lot of time hitting the virtual links. Hope to see you all on the course!
Awesome news! Great job!
