May ’25 Giveaway: Sealed Guru Guru Onsen 2! (Update: Winner Chosen!)

I know. Before you say anything, I know I’m 10 days later than usual for this month’s giveaway but better late than never, right? The original prize I had lined up for this month, a sealed copy of Golf Shiyouyo 2, never arrived from the eBay seller. Sadly it was the only sealed copy on the entirety of eBay so I had to change up the prize. I was still determined to get a brand-new game however so I ended up with a sealed Guru Guru Onsen 2. I’m sure the hardcore Golf Shiyouyo 2 fans will be disappointed but I hope this will suffice.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Guru Guru Onsen 2, this is a collection of table games including poker, mahjong, UNO and an original board game called Hot Springs “Investigation Division”. The series consisted of three different entries, 1-3, each one having a slightly different selection of games. While all of the game could be played locally, the big appeal was that you could play these games online with other players all around Japan. It was apparently a very popular series and even moved on to other platforms after the Dreamcast. Fun fact, this was actually meant to be the first cross-platform online game between Dreamcast and PS2 but likely due to a delay in release (the PS2 version didn’t hit store shelves until October 2002), it was beat out by Capcom vs. SNK 2. Cross-play with PS2 did end up happening but the PS2 version was just called Guru Guru Onsen and dropped the 2. So yeah, a very interesting history behind this game and the series in general. Maybe we’ll get to play it online one day but until then, you can still enjoy some good ol’ offline play. Or just keep it sealed and put it in a glass case on your shelf if you like. It’s completely up to you!

  1. Might be a bit basic, but my favourites are Monopoly and Catan. Usually prefer virtual board games, even the ones that everyone says are terrible, like Sonic Shuffle 😀

  2. i don’t have a single or two table top game, as so many are wonderful. however to choose just one I would have to go with an old classic, never could find the game so easily but Picture Picture believe was the name. you had to frame a picture and A-Z on a notepad, write down each letter of the item in the photo. every photo had so many hidden and unique items. it was super original but very fun to plant with the family.

  3. Chess will always be one of the top three best games. But as far as modern games go Scythe is pretty great.

  4. Oh this is a fun giveaway! Thanks for doing these. I would say that my favorite classic game is Cribbage (I know that counting it as a boardgame is as stretch). For more modern boardgames, I would have to go with Ticket to Ride, specifically the European board.

  5. I like Scrabble, Pictionary, & Monopoly! But playing games with my young children doesn’t work as they throw pieces everywhere, so I’ll stick to video games until they get older.

  6. I have just one question regarding your favorite table or board game: Does it have to be physical or digital? For the digital, it is the Mario Party series, and for the physical, either Monopoly or Clue, for my pick.
