It’s time yet again to give away a free thing! This month I’m giving away a copy of one of my personal favorite online Dreamcast games, Ooga Booga! I’m honestly kind of shocked that I haven’t given away a copy of this game yet. I was almost certain that I did but can’t find any record of doing so. Very strange! Possible conspiracy theories aside, Ooga Booga is by far one of the most unique and “Sega-like” online games there is, both in gameplay and style. Think of it like a fully 3D Super Smash Bros in a tropical setting (in fact, the folks at Visual Concepts used to play SSM during their breaks while developing the game.). It’s an absolute blast to play, whether it be online or not. The main “Smakahuna” mode is great fun but the highlight of this tropical romp is definitely the Boar Polo mode, which is without-a-doubt the inspiration for the smash hit Rocket League, except with the crazy factor cranked up to 11. It’s absolute chaos and something I think should be played by everyone, on a daily basis! And if you happen to win this giveaway, you’d better do that or I’ll track you down and take the game back! Ok, maybe I won’t do anything that extreme… or will I?
If you’d like to enter for a chance to win, simply leave a comment below and make sure you include a valid email address in the “Email” box. Just for fun, let me know what you think is the most “Sega-like” game of all time (aside from Sonic games because that’s too easy). The winner will be chosen one week from today (March 18th). Good luck!
The most “SEGA-like” game I can think of is Daytona USA 2: a fast, colorful and over-the-top racing game with tracks heavily inspired by amusement parks. Pure arcade fun, what more could you want from life? 😉
If I must choose a game not made by SEGA, however, the one that more closely resembles their style for me is Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Many tried to emulate the aesthetic and/or feeling of Jet Set Radio, but only Team Reptile succeded in that regard.
Bonus: The 90’s Arcade Racer for Wii U, but unfortunately never got released…
I have to day Phantasy Star feels the most sega like. All sorts of unique touches, polish in weird places, and slightly more agead of it’s time than some may give credit for.
It’s a game I am always up for simply on vibes alone.
It’s really hard to pick what the most “Sega-like” video game besides Sonic would be. I guess it might be Phantasy Star Online? I just don’t see Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony ever making a video game anything like it. If anything, I definitely think it is at least the most “Dreamcast-like” game, particularly due to the online play.
Space Harrier is probably the most Sega game I can think of. It’s just fun, nonsensical, and way ahead of its time. It’s everything that comes to mind when I hear “Sega”!
man that was such fun when i was younger
Crazy Taxi was always the most “Sega” game to me. Fast, frantic, fun, arcade goodness. with house of the dead in a close second!!
I honestly was amazed when I first played Jet Set Radio. The ability to spray paint and the music. It just was amazing! The game had me enjoying it for days, wishing it never ended. I loved the challenges and the difficulty was perfection not too bad, but just enough to keep me interested to play. That was one of the best games I could say that Sega came out with other than Sonic everything!
It’s got to be music, the visual appeal and the different locations to play through that just made the game so interesting. Otherwise, it probably wouldn’t have captured my heart and be one game I’d request first every time if needed a Sega game to play. Especially if you have another person to play along with.
I’ve always wanted to get this game! My friend brought it into school to show me since I didn’t believe there was a game called Ooga Booga, and I didn’t have a Dreamcast yet. One time he let me borrow the manual so I could look at all the cool stuff! I’ve actually still never played it…
As for the most SEGA-like game, for me it would probably be Nights into Dreams. It kinda has everything SEGA is known for. A ton of weird ideas thrown together (whether they work or not) in an addicting game with great music and cool visuals.
Good luck everyone!
Thanks for the giveaway! Burning Rangers is such a “oh this is def SEGA” game for me. As for a Dreamcast specific entry, it would have to be Crazy Taxi.
Love this game. An all time classic that is under-appreciated.
For me, the most Sega game ever (besides Sonic) has to be Jet Set Radio! It’s got that wild cel-shaded style, fast-paced skating, and a killer soundtrack that just oozes cool. Pure Dreamcast magic—Sega at its absolute best!
Pleaseeee, I deserve it! I’m King of Ooga Booga, LOL!!
The best sega game is the Daytona USA games as it’s what they made for the arcades and plays well on the dreamcast!
